Ultimate Active Directory Command Line Tool

Technology

Today I was reading an article on Tomeks DS World that described steps taken to determine the most efficient directory structure.  While the article was interesting I was more focused on the tool that was used, something I hadn’t seen before.  The name of the tool was adfind and it’s found on the JoeWare.net site.  From the website:

Command line Active Directory query tool. Mixture of ldapsearch, search.vbs, ldp, dsquery, and dsget tools with a ton of other cool features thrown in for good measure.

Now I have seen my fair share of Active Directory tools but this one takes first prize.  For starters it includes the ability to retrieve statistics on your searches so you can determine if your searches are very efficient.  It also includes the decoding of GUID attributes, shortcut commands, and a slew of directory interrogation commands to help dig into your directory.  Included in the about page is a link to the usage page which includes a slew of sample syntax’s to help get you started.  Such a successful tool, it has even been highlighted on the Microsoft Technet Support site.
