Today I woke up to a slew of new comments on my blog. I knew right away that something wasn’t right because I normally don’t get more that one or two comments in a given day. Looking closer I noticed that many of the comments were from different email addresses and web sites, but the name was the same. The name given was Busby SEO Test. After spending some time looking at the comments it became clear that these comments were not of a constructive nature, rather just an attempt to increase the submitters page rank in Google. Further investigation revealed the following information:
What the heck is this about?! It turns out that some genius has created a contest that encourages people to go out and spray graffiti on everyone’s blog comments. How ridiculous is this idea?! I ended up removing as many of these comments as I can find. I am also looking into how I can filter comment submissions using a regular expression so that I can prevent future submissions. Perhaps I will do a redirect to a porn site or something whenever someone tries to submit a comment with Busby SEO in the Name field…
Is anyone else experiencing the flood of comments like this?
